Jurassic Coast - accessible routes for wheels…
Ways with wheels for wheelchair users and buggies
We’ve collated a list of places on, or close to, the Isle of Purbeck, on the Jurassic Coast that we think would be suitable for wheelchair users and people with children in buggies or pushchairs. Where walks have been published by other organisations we have included links to their websites, rather than attempt to tell you about these walks ourselves. These websites ‘Walks with Wheelchairs’ and ‘Walks with Buggies’ seem to provide very useful maps, filtered by region. The ‘Accessible Purbeck’ guide looks useful too.
Although the Isle of Purbeck is quite hilly and the coast is either sandy or rocky, there are some great places you can access with a buggy or a wheelchair. We have featured Durlston Country Park as an example of a great place to visit if you are on wheels, then listed another of our Top Ten favourite places for you to explore.
Let’s check out…
Durlston Country Park
A lot of work has gone on recently to ensure that Durlston Country Park is as accessible as possible to all users. On a recent visit I was impressed by the improvements to the wide tracks and trails, which enable wheelchairs users and parents with buggies and pushchairs to have more access to the park. There is so much to see at Durlston and it is great that there has been a conscious effort to consider accessibility, with trampers and off-road wheelchairs being available for hire. With the panoramic seaviews, the giant stone globe and the fabulous lighthouse, it is well worth a visit.
